We brought Nora home when she was a puppy about 3 ½ years ago. In that time, she has proven to be an excellent family dog that is always willing to please. She is great pals with our three year old son and gets along well with the neighborhood dogs. Nora has been a great hunter with a definite nose for birds and a drive to retrieve. She picks up new commands extremely quickly and is great in the field. For over 3 years, Nora has been a constant hunting and hiking companion and has always kept going strong for sometimes days at a time.

Growing up, our family always had well-trained Springer Spaniels and after I graduated from college I was determined to find one to call my own. What I was looking for in a dog was one that had a solid pedigree of hunting background, as I am an avid pheasant hunter and wanted a dog that I could take hunting with me for years to come. More importantly, I was searching for a nice family dog that had a gentle temperament, while being able to be around people and interact nicely. I searched around many different kennels in Minnesota, checking out numerous Springer Spaniel litters in search of a puppy that would be a good fit for me and my lifestyle. What I found at Whiskey Winds by far and away exceeded any expectations I had previously set. Visiting with Shelly, the puppies, as well as Ruby (puppy’s mom), I could instantly tell that the puppies had been bred with great care and that Shelly and Dan truly cared about the puppies well-being and the importance of making sure that they were going to a good home. Shelly was more than helpful in filling me in on all the information regarding the pups, their health, as well as the background of their parents. For me, the best indicator of how a puppy will turn out is visiting with their Mom. Ruby had a very mild temperament and you could tell she was a wonderful family dog, as well as having a good hunting sense. After leaving the visit, I knew that this was the kennel I wanted my new puppy to come from. A few weeks later I received an email from Shelly informing me that the puppy I wanted was actually available, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to go pick him up. I have had Cooper for a little over a year now, and I honestly could not have asked for a better dog. He is incredibly smart, well-mannered, loving, and extremely easy to train - both in the house and in the field. He is not overly energetic as some seem to claim that Springers are known for, although he did an exceptional job in his first hunting season, especially for being only 9 months old at the time. After much training, being able to watch Cooper work through the field to flush his first rooster, proceed to find it in the brush and return it to my side was a moment that I will never forget and one that brings a big smile to my face whenever I think about it. He is truly a man’s best friend, and I can’t picture any other dog to be my companion for years to come. Thank you, Shelly. I know where I will be getting my next Springer when the time comes.

I’ve had my Springer Spaniel, Scout, for four years now and my family and I couldn’t be happier. Scout’s hunting instincts and drive make him the perfect partner in the woods going after grouse or in the field for pheasants. He’s also been a great playmate for my two young daughters. I’ll always have a Springer and I’ll always go to Whiskey Winds Spaniels!
